NEUROKINETIC THERAPY
(NKT)

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) is a form of manual therapy that aims to assess and treat dysfunctional movement patterns and muscular imbalances in the body. NKT works with the nervous system and combines aspects of motor control theory, manual muscle testing, and corrective exercise to identify and address the root causes of pain, dysfunction, and limited mobility.

The premise of NKT is that the body's movement patterns can become disrupted due to various factors such as injury, trauma, repetitive strain, or poor posture. These disruptions can lead to compensatory patterns where certain muscles become overactive or underactive, resulting in pain, restricted range of motion, and decreased performance.

During an NKT session, we will use specific manual muscle testing techniques to identify dysfunctional movement patterns and the specific muscles involved in the compensation. Once identified, the therapist will use a combination of techniques such as soft tissue manipulation, stretching, and corrective exercises to reset the dysfunctional patterns and restore proper movement mechanics. You will then be assigned very specific home care exercises to continue to retrain your brain to integrate the new corrections.

NKT is based on the principle that by addressing the underlying cause of movement dysfunction, rather than just treating the symptoms, long-lasting relief and improved function can be achieved.
