When hands are essential for your job, hobby or caring responsibilities, even a small change in grip can be disruptive. Describe both pain and changes in feeling.
This is general education for adults, not a diagnosis or an individualized exercise prescription. Your symptoms, health history and any existing medical advice come first.
What might be behind the symptoms?
Wrist and hand symptoms can involve tendons, joints or nerves. Carpal tunnel syndrome is one possible cause of tingling and weakness, especially at night, but it is not the explanation for every sore wrist.
Our wrist and hand pain guide explains the related assessment and care options in more detail.
What you can try at home
Reduce tasks involving sustained hard gripping or repeated wrist bending when they aggravate symptoms. For suspected nerve symptoms, ask a clinician whether a neutral night splint is suitable instead of buying equipment at random.
Stop a self-care measure if it increases symptoms. If you are unsure whether it is suitable, ask a qualified health professional; do not delay medical care while trying home remedies.
When to seek medical help
Persistent numbness, worsening weakness or dropping objects warrants assessment. Seek urgent care after injury with deformity, severe swelling or a cold, pale or numb hand.
For a medical emergency in Alberta, call 911. Health Link at 811 can help with non-emergency health advice when you are unsure where to go.
How this fits your daily life
- Cyclists & active commuters: Note your typical ride duration, whether symptoms occur on climbs or flat rides, and any recent equipment changes. Photos of your normal setup can help explain the task without replacing an assessment.
- Golfers & racquet-sport players: Bring an example of your usual practice volume and describe whether symptoms begin during play or later. We can discuss a gradual return to the course or court without promising an instant swing fix.
- Desk & remote workers: Bring a description of your workstation and the tasks that trigger symptoms. Ask how to fit movement breaks into real work demands rather than buying equipment before understanding the problem.

A useful question for your appointment
“Does my pattern suggest a nerve concern, and what work adjustments are reasonable while we investigate?”
Which REVIVELAB service should you discuss?
- Physiotherapy — discuss assessment, movement and a rehabilitation plan.
These are options to discuss, not a recommendation to book every treatment. Please speak with a qualified professional at REVIVELAB for an assessment and advice tailored to you.
