Understanding achilles tendon pain
The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel. Pain or stiffness around it may be noticeable with walking, running or calf-loading activities. A clinical assessment helps distinguish tendon-related symptoms from other problems.
The plan may consider training changes and progressive loading. A sudden pop, significant new weakness or difficulty pushing off after an injury calls for prompt medical assessment rather than continuing to train.
Describe more than the sore spot
Tell your physiotherapist whether discomfort is close to the heel or farther up the tendon, whether it followed a sudden event and how walking or calf-loading activities feel. Bring details of changes in running, jumping and footwear. A sudden pop with difficulty pushing off is a different situation from gradually developing stiffness and needs prompt medical assessment.
Make loading relevant to your goal
If tendon rehabilitation is appropriate, discuss how exercises will progress toward walking, hills, running or jumping. The starting load and follow-up depend on your findings and response. At REVIVELAB, you can also ask about shockwave as an additional option for suitable presentations; it is not automatically needed and should not replace a rehabilitation plan.
Assessment and treatment options
These are options to discuss after an assessment, not a recommendation to book every service. Your symptoms, health history, goals and preferences guide the plan.
