Understanding headaches
Headaches can have different causes. Some occur alongside neck pain, restricted movement or muscle tension, but not every headache starts in the neck.
Depending on the headache type and assessment, physiotherapy, chiropractic care or massage therapy may be considered for associated neck or muscle symptoms. Your practitioner can explain suitable options and when medical assessment should come first.
Describe the headache, not just the tension
Bring a short account of when headaches happen, how long they last and whether they occur with neck discomfort. Mention changes in vision, nausea, medicines, a recent injury and any diagnosis or advice from your doctor. These details help distinguish a movement-related concern from a headache that needs a different assessment.
Where rehabilitation may fit
At our Bridgeland clinic, you can discuss associated neck movement or muscle symptoms with a physiotherapist. Any exercise or hands-on care should have a clear purpose and be reviewed against your symptoms and daily activities. A headache should not automatically lead to neck treatment or dry needling. Contact the team if you are unsure whether a medical appointment should come first.
Assessment and treatment options
These are options to discuss after an assessment, not a recommendation to book every service. Your symptoms, health history, goals and preferences guide the plan.
When medical care comes first
A sudden, extremely painful headache, or a headache with new weakness, speech or vision changes, needs emergency medical assessment. New, changing or recurring headaches should be discussed with a medical professional.
