Understanding shin splints
Shin splints is a term commonly used for exercise-related pain along the shin. A change in running, jumping or training can be relevant, but persistent or sharply localized pain should be assessed rather than assumed to be routine soreness.
Tell your practitioner about training changes, the location of pain and any difficulty walking. The plan may consider activity adjustments and a gradual return once an appropriate starting point is established.
Bring your recent training picture
Distance is only part of the story. Describe changes in hills, speed sessions, surfaces, footwear and recovery, and whether pain now appears with ordinary walking. Point out whether discomfort covers an area or is sharply localized. Persistent or worsening symptoms need assessment rather than being dismissed as routine training soreness.
Separate injury care from a running assessment
If shin pain is the concern, ask our team which clinical appointment should come first. REVIVELAB also offers a separate running assessment with Danny Nguyen or Daniel Silva Mendes. That appointment looks at running and recommendations; it is not a replacement for checking a painful injury. A return-to-running plan should reflect the assessment and your response over time.
Assessment and treatment options
These are options to discuss after an assessment, not a recommendation to book every service. Your symptoms, health history, goals and preferences guide the plan.
