Understanding urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence means accidental leakage of urine. It is different from bowel incontinence, which involves stool. Leakage with effort or a cough and leakage with a sudden urge are different patterns; tell your clinician when it happens and whether you have other bladder symptoms.
A bladder concern deserves assessment rather than being accepted as an unavoidable part of childbirth or ageing. Medical review may be needed alongside pelvic health physiotherapy, depending on the symptoms and their cause.
Useful details for your first appointment
Describe when leakage occurs, any urgency or change in frequency and whether it affects sleep, work or exercise. Share relevant health, pregnancy, birth or surgical history and medicines. Burning, blood in the urine or a new unexplained change needs medical advice; do not assume it is simply pelvic floor weakness.
Pelvic health support at REVIVELAB
Melissa Chea offers pelvic health physiotherapy for women at our Bridgeland clinic. Assessment can guide a discussion about pelvic floor function, habits and a suitable plan. You may decline an internal examination. New bladder or bowel changes with back pain, groin numbness or leg weakness require emergency medical assessment rather than a routine booking.
Assessment and treatment options
These are options to discuss after an assessment, not a recommendation to book every service. Your symptoms, health history, goals and preferences guide the plan.
