Someone else’s recovery video may look encouraging, but their operation and restrictions may be different from yours. Your discharge instructions are the starting point.
This is general education for adults, not a diagnosis or an individualized exercise prescription. Your symptoms, health history and any existing medical advice come first.
What might be behind the symptoms?
Rehabilitation depends on the procedure, healing stage and medical restrictions. A generic online exercise plan cannot establish whether a repair is ready for more movement or load.
Our post-surgical rehabilitation guide explains the related assessment and care options in more detail.
What you can try at home
Keep your discharge plan accessible and follow prescribed wound care, movement limits and exercises. Ask the surgical team about anything unclear. Bring the operation details and protocol to physiotherapy so the plan can respect them.
Stop a self-care measure if it increases symptoms. If you are unsure whether it is suitable, ask a qualified health professional; do not delay medical care while trying home remedies.
When to seek medical help
Contact your surgical team urgently for fever, increasing wound redness or drainage, or unexpected worsening pain. Chest pain, sudden breathlessness or coughing blood needs emergency care; new calf swelling needs urgent medical advice.
For a medical emergency in Alberta, call 911. Health Link at 811 can help with non-emergency health advice when you are unsure where to go.
How this fits your daily life
- Injury & surgery recovery: Bring your discharge plan, surgeon's protocol and any imaging reports you have. After a collision, tell us whether you have received medical assessment and ask the clinic about appointment and paperwork requirements.
Explore the full Who we serve directory for other work, sport and life situations. These examples help you prepare a conversation; they do not mean everyone with the same activity needs the same treatment.
A useful question for your appointment
“What restrictions still apply, which milestones matter for my operation, and when should my surgeon be contacted?”
Which REVIVELAB service should you discuss?
- Physiotherapy — discuss assessment, movement and a rehabilitation plan.
These are options to discuss, not a recommendation to book every treatment. Please speak with a qualified professional at REVIVELAB for an assessment and advice tailored to you.
