Turning in bed, getting dressed or carrying your baby can matter more than an exercise milestone. Recovery should fit your symptoms and medical advice.
This is general education for adults, not a diagnosis or an individualized exercise prescription. Your symptoms, health history and any existing medical advice come first.
What might be behind the symptoms?
Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain can affect walking, stairs and turning in bed. Postpartum concerns need their own assessment, including birth history and any healing restrictions.
Our pregnancy & postpartum rehabilitation guide explains the related assessment and care options in more detail.
What you can try at home
For pregnancy-related pelvic discomfort, try sitting to dress, keeping comfortable activity and resting when needed. A pillow between the legs may help in bed. After birth, follow your maternity team’s advice before increasing exercise.
Stop a self-care measure if it increases symptoms. If you are unsure whether it is suitable, ask a qualified health professional; do not delay medical care while trying home remedies.
When to seek medical help
Severe or worsening pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, fever, chest pain or breathlessness needs urgent medical attention. Contact your maternity team for new pregnancy symptoms rather than assuming they are musculoskeletal.
For a medical emergency in Alberta, call 911. Health Link at 811 can help with non-emergency health advice when you are unsure where to go.
How this fits your daily life
- Pregnancy & postpartum: Tell Melissa about your stage of pregnancy or birth recovery, any medical restrictions, and what you want help with. You can discuss examination options, decline a procedure and ask questions at every step.
Explore the full Who we serve directory for other work, sport and life situations. These examples help you prepare a conversation; they do not mean everyone with the same activity needs the same treatment.
A useful question for your appointment
“What is appropriate at my current stage, and how can we plan around feeding, carrying and the activities I hope to return to?”
Which REVIVELAB service should you discuss?
- Pelvic floor physiotherapy — discuss our pelvic health service for women, with assessment options guided by consent.
These are options to discuss, not a recommendation to book every treatment. Please speak with a qualified professional at REVIVELAB for an assessment and advice tailored to you.
