Leg pain can make sitting, commuting and sleep difficult. The first question is not which stretch is strongest; it is whether nerve symptoms need urgent attention.
This is general education for adults, not a diagnosis or an individualized exercise prescription. Your symptoms, health history and any existing medical advice come first.
What might be behind the symptoms?
Sciatica can involve pain, tingling, numbness or weakness travelling along a leg. Not all leg pain is sciatica, and back pain alone does not confirm it.
Our sciatica and leg pain guide explains the related assessment and care options in more detail.
What you can try at home
Keep tolerable daily movement and break up prolonged sitting or lying down. Avoid forceful stretches that increase radiating symptoms. Ask a pharmacist about medication suitability rather than assuming a familiar painkiller is appropriate.
Stop a self-care measure if it increases symptoms. If you are unsure whether it is suitable, ask a qualified health professional; do not delay medical care while trying home remedies.
When to seek medical help
Go to emergency care for new saddle numbness, difficulty passing urine, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe or worsening symptoms in both legs. New progressive weakness also needs prompt medical assessment.
For a medical emergency in Alberta, call 911. Health Link at 811 can help with non-emergency health advice when you are unsure where to go.
How this fits your daily life
- Drivers & frequent travellers: Tell us what changes between short and long journeys. Plan stops within safe driving rules, and ask whether symptoms or medication should change your driving plans.
Explore the full Who we serve directory for other work, sport and life situations. These examples help you prepare a conversation; they do not mean everyone with the same activity needs the same treatment.
A useful question for your appointment
“Which changes in strength or sensation should I monitor, and how can I adapt sitting without avoiding all activity?”
Which REVIVELAB service should you discuss?
- Physiotherapy — discuss assessment, movement and a rehabilitation plan.
These are options to discuss, not a recommendation to book every treatment. Please speak with a qualified professional at REVIVELAB for an assessment and advice tailored to you.
