Understanding sciatica and leg pain
Pain travelling from the back or buttock into a leg may occur with altered sensation or other symptoms. Sciatica is one possible explanation; not all leg pain comes from the same structure.
Your assessment considers the symptom pattern, movement and relevant strength or sensation. New bladder or bowel changes, groin numbness or weakness in both legs with back pain need emergency medical attention.
Explain where the symptoms travel
Tell your physiotherapist whether discomfort stays in the buttock or continues down the leg, and whether you notice tingling, numbness or weakness. Describe what happens with sitting, standing, walking and changing position. Bring previous medical advice and note any recent change in the pattern.
Build a plan around the activities you miss
At REVIVELAB, a physiotherapy appointment can explore a suitable starting point for movement and rehabilitation after screening. Your first goal might be a comfortable commute or a longer walk, rather than a particular exercise. Ask how to adjust the plan if symptoms spread or strength changes. Our lower-back guide explains the wider assessment and important warning signs.
Assessment and treatment options
These are options to discuss after an assessment, not a recommendation to book every service. Your symptoms, health history, goals and preferences guide the plan.
